Canaan Dog Club of America Official Spirit Shop

All dog owners know that their dogs are special. One breed that is truly unique is the Canaan Dog, a rare breed that is indigenous to the geographic region of modern-day Israel. Incredibly, cave drawings and carvings dating to 8,000 BCE depict the Canaan Dog! Having survived without direct human intervention, these wild-born desert dogs exist today with very much the same characteristics as their ancient ancestors. Stated in more direct terms, Canaans have not been “selectively bred”; what you see today is what you would have seen centuries ago. Canaan Dogs are naturally protective, making them excel at herding and flock sentry. Modern Canaans make wonderful family pets and show dogs; and they participate in a variety of activities, including agility, obedience, barn hunt, lure coursing, dock diving, and more! The future existence of these beautiful and lovable dogs is precarious. Sadly, the hostilities in Southern Israel have impacted the areas where Canaans live freely in nature; and currently, the extent of damage to the Canaan Dog population is unknown. Join us here on Corinth & Main to help the Canaan Dog Club of America endeavor to ensure the survival of this breed. And you can check out the Club’s website, www.CDCA.org for more information.
